Cylinder
(Hydraulic Cylinder)
Role
in the Wood Processor System
The
cylinder pushes the log being split through the wedge.
Advice
From the Professionals
The
cylinder is a critical element of firewood processing, and
selection of the proper cylinder is important. Larger diameter
cylinders increase power, but are slower since more hydraulic
fluid is needed to fill the cylinder. Smaller diameter cylinders
are faster, but not as powerful. Selection of the proper
cylinder relies on the species and size of wood being split. The
overall machine design must also consider the size (GPM) of the
pump feeding the cylinder, and the size of the engine powering
the pump.
